Bowness-on-Windermere is een stad in het bestuurlijke gebied South Lakeland, in het Engelse graafschap Cumbria met ca. 3800 inwoners. Bowness-on-Windermere is a city in the administrative area of South Lakeland, in the English county of Cumbria with about 3800 inhabitants. The municipality is located on the east bank of Windermere, the largest lake in the English Lake District and therefore fulfills an important tourist function, with many opportunities for recreation in the form of water sports, hiking and shopping. Bowness-on-Windermere developed especially after the construction of the railway line from Oxenholme and Kendal to Windermere in 1847. In 1894 it became a civil parish. In 1905 the city council merged with that of Windermere. Both civil parishes merged in 1974 under the name Windermere. The two places have grown together over the years, but they still each have their own center. The buildings in Bowness date mainly from the Victorian and Edwardian period. An exception to this is St. Martin's Church, which was built in 1483 on an even older foundation. Another attraction in Bowness that attracts many visitors is the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, dedicated to the life and work of the writer and illustrator Beatrix Potter.
