Caerleon (in het Romeins: Isca) was één van de grootste Romeinse forten in Wales. Binnen de muren van het fort leefden ongeveer 7.000 mensen. Net buiten het fort bevindt zich het amfitheater. In de middeleeuwen was men er van overtuigd dat zich hier de Ronde Tafel van Arthur bevond. In 1405 rustten de Fransen een expeditie uit, op zoek naar dit relikwie.
Van het Romeinse fort is weinig overgebleven, het amfitheater is het beste bewaard gebleven. Het badhuis is ook redelijk goed bewaard gebleven. Het is in de 90-er jaren overdekt en vormt nu één van de hoogtepunten van het fort.
Vlakbij het theater staat een middeleeuwse kerk. Deze is gebouwd op de funderingen van het verblijf van de commandant van Isca.
Het fort was de thuisbasis van Legio II Augustus. Een plaquette aan de kerkmuur herinnert aan dit legioen.

Caerleon (in Roman: Isca) was one of the largest Roman forts in Wales. Around 7,000 people lived within the walls of the fort. Just outside the fort is the amphitheater. In the Middle Ages people were convinced that Arthur's Round Table was located here. In 1405 the French equipped an expedition in search of this relic.
Little remains of the Roman fort, the amphitheater is the best preserved. The bathhouse is also reasonably well preserved. It was covered in the 90s and is now one of the highlights of the fort.
Near the theater is a medieval church. This is built on the foundations of the residence of the commander of Isca.
The fort was the home of Legio II Augustus. A plaque on the church wall reminds us of this legion.
