Het Lake District is een Engels nationaal park en werd in 1951 opgericht. Het is een bergachtige streek: alle toppen zijn hoger dan 900 meter. Het hoogste punt is de Scafell Pike (978 meter). Hat Lake District telt 16 meren, meestal lang van vorm. Deze zijn vermoedelijk in de ijstijd ontstaan door glijdende gletsjers.
Het klimaat is er erg vochtig: het regent en sneeuwt er regelmatig en veel. Ter vergelijking: in Nederland valt jaarlijks 700 tot 800 mm regen, in het Lake District gemiddeld 3000 mm.

The Lake District is an English national park and was established in 1951. It is a mountainous region: all peaks are higher than 900 meters. The highest point is the Scafell Pike (978 meters). Hat Lake District has 16 lakes, usually long in shape. These were probably created in the ice age by sliding glaciers.
The climate is very humid: it rains and snows regularly and a lot. For comparison: in the Netherlands there is a yearly rainfall of 700 to 800 mm, in the Lake District an average of 3000 mm.
